Joint Separation
Description:

Joint separation occurs when an injury is able to stretch the tendons that hold two bones together, causing them to stretch and impairing their ability to hold the joint together. Separated joints are extremely painful, difficult to repair, and almost impossible to restore to their pre-injury strength and robustness.

Treatment:

The two halves of the joint should be returned to their typical alignment and the patient be made to keep still until the tendons can heal enough to begin holding the point together during movement. The patient should be then reintroduced very slowly to movement and activity.
