A dark, amber-eyed tortoiseshell cat with small patches of white around the legs, chest, and belly. Their fur is short, and mostly black with smaller orange spots scattered around their body. A small scar crosses their left flank, and there’s a nick in the right ear. They are pretty average-sized, only the slightest bit taller than their sister, Thornstrike (though that might just be their posture).

Briarfang grew up in a restless family, and so learned a certain degree of toughness. Usually quiet and reserved, they are quick to correct any who might think them shy or uncertain. They are always up for a race or a sparring match, and is always thinking about who might best match their skills. They are also a calculating creature, and treat most things as a hunt, even if it’s as small of an action as deciding where to sleep in the den. Loyalty runs strong in them, cultivated by years of working alongside their family, growing up with stories of how trust was earned by their great-grandparent. Like them, Briarfang rejects any notion of identifying as tom or she-cat, and boasts strict pride for it. Blood is thicker than water for them, and they will always defend their kin more than anyone else.

Briarkit was born in the Moon of First White (2017) to Nettlesky along with their sibling Thornstrike. They often pondered their missing sire, trying to imagine what he might have been like, but they also pondered many other things. Frequently, they would be caught quietly staring into space, totally lost in thought, until their littermates would drag them into some game or another.

In the Moon of First green (2018) they were apprenticed as Briarpaw. Their excitement was kept more inward, and so gave the appearance of a more mature cat than they actually were. Their mentor was thoughtful and understanding, though, and took the time to recognize Briarpaw’s communication style for their training. Working with a good mentor as well as their littermates (their best friends) made apprentice work rather enjoyable for them. Being naturally patient, hunting became a skill they excelled at, enjoying the thrill and calculation, and they would frequently show off their accomplishments.

Their first battle came before they were made a warrior. Late into their apprenticeship, they encountered a pair of rogues while out hunting who tried to steal their catch. Not one to run away, Briarpaw fought back, defending their prey and their right to hunt until the rest of their hunting patrol came to help drive off the rogues. They gained a small scar on their flank, but returned to the camp proud that day.

Briarfang was made a warrior alongside their littermates in the Moon of Turning Leaves (2018). They remain a bit clingy to their littermates, preferring to socialize and patrol with them more than anyone else in the clan. During their apprenticeship, they began keeping track of every kind of prey they’ve caught–different kinds of fish, birds, mice, anything–and even collected a few tiny trophies to tuck into their nest. Of course, they’ve always done their best to adhere to the Warrior Code and always bring their prey back for the clan.
