Question #1 : Essay Question

Question:

Select one of the following options and answer in accordance with the type of application you wish to put forth. It should be noted that a type C application is strongly discouraged and not preferred.

  • A.) Application as a member of the Emberback x Skyeyes litter that has not yet been adopted. (If kittens are adopted a player notation will be shown).
  • B.) Application as existing PC Kit or Apprentice – Discuss and provide evidence that supports your character’s suitability to selection as a Medicine Cat’s Apprentice.
  • C.) Application as a newly created Kit or Apprentice – Briefly discuss the character you wish to create, including why that character would be suitable as a Medicine Cat’s Apprentice.

Response:

I will be applying with Piperpaw, both because it was established before I got the character that she was going to be a Medicine Cat apprentice, but also after deliberation I think it would be a good fit for her.

Originally I was wondering if being a warrior would be more interesting because of her anxiety surrounding her abilities and nervousness in the spotlight, but thinking about it now being a medicine cat is both a very isolated job, as well as somewhere that she often will have to deal with being the centre of attention.

As an apprentice I intend to have her freeze up when she is dealing with more high-profile or contentious cases (such as if multiple cats are watching her, or if she has to talk to the clan about something that happened) but as a whole Piper is competent, intelligent and isn’t afraid to ask questions of people that she trusts. I think her relationship with Rowanglade would be one where she trusted the other cat so in most situations she would be a very competent medicine cat. She is also quite ambitious, so becoming a figurehead of her clan would suit her quite well – although she doesn’t really know that side of herself very well.

Question #2 : Role Play Situation

Question:

Respond to the following post In Character as if with the character you would adopt or create.

Rowanglade carried three herbs in her mouth and dropped them in front of her young apprentice. “Which of these herbs would you use to treat a cat with Blackcough, and why.” The she-cat laid the challenge with a subtle touch of slyness in her tone, waiting attentively for her trainee to pick between basil leaves, dandelion leaves and raspberry leaves.

Response:

Piperpaw gently set down the herbs she was drying, and padded over to her mentor, seating herself with her tail tucked under her paws as Rowanglade laid out the challenge. She had never had to deal with Blackcough before – but it couldn’t be too different from the other cough-like ailments…right?

Staring at the three leaves, she slowly went over the uses of the plants in her mind. Dandelion were good for infection and inflammation… she had used it a lot for elders because it was so mild. She had never heard of it being used for coughs though. Raspberry was… mostly useful for kitting and pregnancy – something she admittedly did not have a lot of experience in assisting with. So perhaps it also had uses with blackcough? Finally – basil.

Piperpaw was honestly unable to remember what basil leaves were used for. She knew that the flower helped with poison but the leaves… maybe they did the same thing?

She looked up at her mentor, blinking away nervous tears. “Out of all the plants I would try using Raspberry leaves… but I don’t know.” There wasn’t much else she could do but admit her own failings. Hopefully Rowanglade wouldn’t be too disappointed.

Question #3 : Role Play Situation

Question:

Respond to the following post In Character as if with the character you would adopt or create. Please assume Rowanglade is out of camp for this situation and that your character is about 4 moons or more into training.

Robintail limped slowly into camp, his right foreleg dripping blood, and hanging at a strange angle. He whimpered slightly with each step, moving slowly towards the Medicine Cat’s Den. “Rowanglade?” His voice was weak, and he was clearly exhausted from the long journey. So exhausted that he collapsed as his three good legs gave out. When examined, it would be revealed that, in addition to the flesh around his paw being torn in an circle all the way around and scraped and cut in many places, one of the two long legbones had been broken. An experienced Medicine Cat would know it instantly: The work of one of the human’s Silver Jaws, deadly things they left to hunt for them, that grabbed in the limbs of animals not careful enough. Robintail was a rare case where one managed to wrestle their leg free and flee from the cold creature without tearing it off completely.

Response:

“Robintail?” Piperpaw poked her head out of the den as Robintail went down, her heart dropping into her stomach as the smell of blood hit her nose. She trotted over to the older cat; trying to not alarm anyone else in the clearing – or Robintail himself. The calmer he stayed the better she could work.

“Okay. Alright” Her stomach admittedly flipped at the sight of the broken bone and flayed skin. Whatever had done this to him was brutal – and very strong. But the cause wasn’t important anymore, only the treatment. And that was something she could do. “You are going to be fine – I’m just going to get some supplies and I will be right back.” She managed to keep her face cheerful and tone even despite the sight of the wounds.

Alright, first things first. Piperpaw hurried back into the den – cobwebs and poppy seeds were the best place to begin. Oh – and marigold too. It was a good thing she had just been out this afternoon replenishing the stores. A grapeleaf let her collect all the supplies quickly, and she returned to Robintail’s side. “I need to you take these seeds – they will help with the pain.” She waited for the warrior to lap the little black specks up before pressing in the wound, trying to stop the flow of blood.

A sturdy stick would be the next most important tool to get her paws on. Maybe Brightpaw was still in camp and could fetch it for her?
